RAMA VAIDYANATHAN

Rama Vaidyanathan is perhaps the only student of the veteran Yamini Krishnamurthy to reach the top position in Bharata Natyam solo dancing. Her determination, hardwork, fresh and innovative ideas has made her popular.

I took this photograph using my mobile phone immediately after Rama's performance at the Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai in December 2006. From Left: Rama, Yamini and Rama's mother Madhavi Gopalakrishnan

Yamini Krishnamurthy

If Ravi Shankar was instrumental in propagating and popularising Hindustani music world wide, Yamini did that for Bharata Natyam. Her electrifying performances will be remembered forever. She is considered the queen of solo Bharata Natyam.

Malavika Sarrukai - Expoenent of Bharata Natyam

Malavika Sarukkai rose to fame when she was featured at the inaugural ceremony of Festival of India in Japan. The then Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi Dr. VK Narayana Menon and the then Secretary Keshav Kothari were instrumental in showcasing an young dancer for this prestigious event attended by heads of countries in the eightees. Since then there was no looking back for malavika. She took the responsibility with great respect and today she is perhaps the most sought after exponent of Bharata Natyam.
